Before you put the QR on your counter
- ✓ It is a static QR: it never tells you when someone has paid. Check each payment in your own bank or UPI app, not on the customer’s screen.
- ✓ Test-scan with two UPI apps and check the name, UPI ID and amount.
- ✓ Keep it dark on light; downloads are blocked below a 4:1 contrast ratio.
- ✓ Nobody needs to scan a QR to receive money, and never share your UPI PIN or OTP. Fields checked against NPCI documents 22 Oct 2026.
UPI QR Code Generator
Make a UPI payment QR for any amount or a fixed amount. Download PNG or SVG, or print a shop standee. Free, no sign-up, runs in your browser.
1. Payment details
Advanced: merchant category code (mc)
2. Colours, size and logo
3. Shop standee / poster
This is a sample made-up UPI ID for illustration only. Do not pay to it. Enter your own UPI ID to make your QR.
How to make a UPI QR code
- Type your UPI ID (VPA), for example yourname@bank. Copy it from your UPI app’s profile so there are no typing mistakes.
- Type the payee name. Use the name your bank shows for that UPI ID, so customers see what they expect.
- Choose Any amount for a counter QR, or Fixed amount for one price. Add a note or a bill number if you like.
- Pick colours, size and an optional logo. The tool warns you if the result may not scan.
- Download PNG or SVG, or print a poster in A4, A5 or A6. Then test-scan it with two UPI apps.
What is inside a UPI QR code
A UPI QR code is a picture of a payment link that starts with upi://pay?. NPCI’s UPI linking specification says QR codes for UPI payments should carry this link, and lists its parameters. The tool uses only these:
| Field | Meaning (NPCI) | Required by NPCI | When this tool adds it | Example |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| pa | Payee UPI ID (VPA) | Yes | Always | sharmastore@okbank |
| pn | Payee name | Yes | Always | Sharma%20General%20Store |
| am | Amount in decimal format; if absent the payer types the amount | No (yes in dynamic mode) | Fixed amount only | 250.00 |
| cu | Currency; only INR is supported | No | Always | INR |
| tn | Transaction note | No | If you type a note | Monthly%20milk%20bill |
| tr | Transaction reference ID (order, bill or booking number) | No (required for merchant and dynamic links) | If you type a reference | BILL-1024 |
| mc | Payee merchant category code | No | Only if you type a 4-digit code | (blank) |
Example: upi://pay?pa=sharmastore@okbank followed by pn=Sharma%20General%20Store, am=250.00 and cu=INR, each joined by an ampersand sign. The full link for your own QR is shown under the code. Text is percent-encoded, so a space becomes %20. The specification also has fields such as mode, sign and orgid for signed links made by banks and payment apps; a free generator cannot sign a link, so they are not used.
Any amount or fixed amount?
| Any amount | Fixed amount | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | One QR for any amount | One QR for one amount |
| Payer’s app | Payer types the amount | Amount is filled in |
| Best for | Shop counter, home delivery, donations, personal | A product price, a fee, a fixed bill, a ticket |
| UPI link | No am field | am=250.00 |
Both are static QR codes: the picture never changes and does not tell you when someone has paid. Always check the payment in your own bank or UPI app before you hand over goods. NPCI’s merchant circular says the amount in a static QR may be typed in by the customer.
Print a UPI QR standee for your shop
| Paper | Size | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| A4 | 210 × 297 mm | Wall poster, notice board, large counter |
| A5 | 148 × 210 mm | Counter standee, table tent (default) |
| A6 | 105 × 148 mm | Small counter card, delivery bag, stall |
The poster shows your business name, a caption, the QR, your payee name and (if you tick it) your UPI ID, plus a line asking customers to check the name in their app before paying. Print at 100% scale, and use Save as PDF in the print window to send it to a print shop. No bank, app or UPI logos are added.
Colours, logo and size: keep it scannable
- Dark on light. A dark code on a white or pale background scans best. The tool works out the contrast ratio and blocks downloads below 4:1 or when the code is lighter than the background.
- Logo. A logo covers part of the code, so the tool switches to error correction level H, the highest level in the QR standard, and warns above 20% of the width.
- Size. Download PNG at 1024 or 2048 px for print, or SVG, which stays sharp at any size. Keep the white border (quiet zone) around the code.
- Short text. A long note or reference makes the code denser and harder to scan from far away.
Bulk UPI QR codes
In Many QR codes, type one UPI ID and a list of amounts (10 20 50 100) to make a price-list set, or paste up to 100 lines from a spreadsheet with different UPI IDs, names, amounts, notes and references. Lines with mistakes are listed and skipped. Print all the codes on A4 sheets, download each one, or download a CSV of the links.
UPI QR fraud: stay safe
- A QR is for paying, not receiving. RBI: transactions involving receipt of money do not require scanning barcodes or QR codes or entering an MPIN (RBI, 28 Jan 2022). RBI’s BE(A)WARE booklet says: never scan any QR code to receive money (RBI BE(A)WARE).
- Never share your UPI PIN or OTP, not even with someone claiming to be from a bank (RBI).
- Fake collect requests. RBI warns of fake payment requests with messages like “Enter your UPI PIN to receive money”. Decline them.
- Check your counter QR. Make sure nobody has stuck another QR over yours, and confirm each payment in your own app, not from a customer’s screen.
- Sample QR codes on this page (the Load example button, screenshots and images) use sharmastore@okbank. This is a sample made-up UPI ID for illustration only. Do not pay to it. Enter your own UPI ID to make your QR.
- Paying someone? Check the name your app shows after scanning before you enter your PIN.
This tool is not made, approved or endorsed by NPCI, RBI or any bank or UPI app. It only builds a QR of a UPI link; the payment itself happens in the payer’s UPI app and your bank.

How much can a customer pay through your QR?
A shopkeeper's most common surprise is a large payment that fails at the counter. That is usually a limit, not a fault in the QR. The limit depends on who you are being paid as.
- Personal UPI ID (person to person): the usual cap is ₹1 lakh a day. A QR made here from your own UPI ID is in this group.
- Verified merchants in some categories: from 15 September 2025, NPCI circular OC 185 B raised the limits for payments to verified merchants. Capital markets, insurance, travel, collections and GeM earnest money go up to ₹5 lakh a payment and ₹10 lakh in 24 hours; credit card bill payments to ₹5 lakh a payment and ₹6 lakh a day; jewellery to ₹2 lakh a payment and ₹6 lakh a day. The PIB note on the new limits covers the same change.
Two cautions. The customer's bank can set a lower limit than NPCI's, so a payment can fail at their end even below the cap. And the higher limits come with a verified merchant account in those categories, which you get through a bank or payment provider, not by adding a merchant code to a QR yourself.
Personal QR or merchant QR?
A personal QR, like the one made here, is free and fine for a stall, a tutor or a home business taking modest amounts. Move to a merchant QR from your bank when you want sound-box alerts, settlement reports, a dynamic QR for each bill, or the merchant limits above.
Send the payment link instead of the image
Under the QR, Copy UPI link gives you the same upi://pay link that the QR holds. Paste it into WhatsApp or an SMS for a customer who is on the phone with you, not in front of you: on a mobile, tapping it opens their UPI app with your details filled in. On a computer it does nothing, so send the QR image to anyone who will open the message on a laptop.
Frequently asked questions
How do I generate a UPI QR code for free?
Type your UPI ID (for example yourname@bank) and the payee name, choose Any amount or Fixed amount, and the QR code appears at once. Download it as PNG or SVG, or print a shop poster in A4, A5 or A6. It is free, needs no sign-up, and everything is made in your browser.
Can I make a UPI QR code with a fixed amount?
Yes. Choose Fixed amount and type the amount. The QR then carries the am (amount) field of the UPI link, for example am=250.00. NPCI’s specification says that when am is not present the amount is editable, so leave the amount out (Any amount) for a counter QR that any customer can use.
Does this QR work with Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm and BHIM?
The QR holds a standard upi://pay link in the format described in NPCI’s UPI linking specification, which UPI apps are meant to read. We do not control any app and cannot promise how each app treats every field, so scan your QR with two or three apps and check the name, UPI ID and amount before you print it.
What is the difference between a static and a dynamic UPI QR?
NPCI describes a static QR as fixed for general use and a dynamic QR as generated for each transaction. The QR made here is static: it never changes and does not confirm payments to you. A fixed-amount QR still has the same amount every time. For a new QR per order with automatic payment confirmation you need a payment gateway or your bank’s merchant service.
Is it safe to share or print my UPI QR code?
A UPI QR only lets people pay into the UPI ID inside it, so sharing your own QR is how you collect money. Check your QR before you print it and from time to time on your counter, so that nobody has pasted another QR over it. Never share your UPI PIN or OTP with anyone.
Can scanning a QR code send me money?
No. RBI says transactions involving receipt of money do not require scanning barcodes or QR codes or entering an MPIN. If anyone asks you to scan a QR or enter your UPI PIN to receive money, it is a fraud attempt: stop and do not enter your PIN.
Which UPI link fields does the QR use?
pa (payee UPI ID) and pn (payee name) always; am (amount) for a fixed-amount QR; cu=INR; and optional tn (note), tr (reference) and mc (merchant code). These are the parameters listed in NPCI’s UPI linking specification. You can see and copy the exact link under the QR.
Should I fill in the merchant code and reference?
Most small shops and individuals should leave the merchant code blank. Only use it if your bank gave you a merchant QR that carries a code. The reference (tr) is useful for a bill or order number; NPCI’s merchant circular OC 18/2016-17 describes it as up to 35 digits. This tool also accepts letters and the characters - _ / . within that length, but stick to digits if your bank asks for a numeric reference.
Can I add my logo to the QR code?
Yes, upload your own logo and it is placed in the centre. The tool switches to the highest error correction level (H) so the code can still be read, and warns you if the logo is larger than 20% of the width. Do not use bank, app or UPI logos you do not own, and always test-scan before printing.
Can I change the colours of my UPI QR?
Yes. Pick a QR colour and a background colour. The tool checks the contrast ratio as you choose: below 4:1, or a light code on a dark background, it warns you and does not let you download, because many phones cannot read such codes. Dark on white is safest.
Can I make many UPI QR codes at once?
Yes. Open Many QR codes (bulk). Type one UPI ID and a list of amounts, or paste up to 100 lines of UPI ID, payee name, amount, note and reference from Excel or Google Sheets. Download each QR as PNG or SVG, print them all on an A4 sheet, or download a CSV of the links.
How do I print a UPI QR standee for my shop?
Fill in your business name and a caption, choose A4, A5 or A6, and press Print poster. Choose Save as PDF in the print window to keep a file for a print shop. Print at 100% scale (no fit to page) and laminate it if it will get wet or dirty.
Can I put the UPI QR on my GST invoice?
Yes. Our free GST bill maker can add a UPI QR for the invoice total, with the invoice number as the note, to tax invoices, bills of supply, quotations and proforma invoices.
Do you store my UPI ID or payment details?
No. The QR is made by code running in your browser. Nothing you type or upload is sent to us or anyone else, and there is no sign-up. The share link keeps your details in the part of the address after #, which browsers do not send to the server.
UPI QR code kaise banaye? (UPI QR
What is the maximum amount someone can pay through my UPI QR?
For a QR made from a personal UPI ID, person-to-person payments are usually capped at ₹1 lakh a day. Higher limits of up to ₹5 lakh a payment apply only to verified merchants in categories such as insurance, capital markets and travel, under NPCI circular OC 185 B from 15 September 2025. The payer's bank may set a lower limit.
