A purchase order is not a tax invoice
Under GST, input tax credit is tied to a valid tax invoice (and other conditions in section 16 of the CGST Act). A PO tells the supplier what you want to buy; it does not replace the invoice. The live preview and Word file carry that warning on every document.

Purchase order generator FAQ
What is a purchase order?
A purchase order (PO) is a commercial document a buyer issues to a supplier stating the goods or services ordered, quantities, prices and terms. Under GST it is not a tax invoice. The supplier’s tax invoice is what supports input tax credit when the other conditions of section 16 of the CGST Act are met.
Does a purchase order give me input tax credit (ITC)?
No. ITC is claimed on the strength of a valid tax invoice (or debit note) and other conditions in section 16(2) of the CGST Act. This generator prints a clear banner that the PO is not a tax invoice and that ITC needs the supplier’s tax invoice.
How does GST appear on this purchase order?
When Show GST is ticked, each line can carry a GST rate. The tool splits CGST + SGST (or CGST + UTGST) when the buyer State and place of supply are the same, and IGST when they differ. Amounts are an estimate for negotiation — the supplier’s tax invoice carries the tax finally charged.
Can I revise a purchase order?
Yes. Use the Revision field (for example 0, 1, 2) and optional COPY / REVISED label, keep the same PO number series your business uses, and print or download the revised document. Agree revision rules with your supplier in your terms.
Can I download Word or save PDF?
Yes. Print / Save as PDF uses the browser dialog. Download Word (.docx) builds the file in the browser with no upload and no sign-up.
Is Hindi supported?
Yes. Switch the page language for Hindi labels, and set document language to Hindi for headings and the amount in words in Hindi.
How does a PO relate to a quotation, delivery challan and tax invoice?
A quotation is a supplier’s price offer. You may place a PO against it (add the quotation reference). Goods may move on a delivery challan under Rule 55. The supplier then issues a tax invoice for the supply. This site has separate free tools for quotation, delivery challan and GST bill / tax invoice.
Where do blank PO templates live?
Blank Word, Excel and PDF templates stay on our purchase order format guide. This page fills a PO online.
Is my data uploaded?
No. Optional Remember my business details stores buyer details and logo in this browser only. Supplier lines and items are never stored.
Who should use this free PO generator?
Indian buyers who need a clear GST-aware purchase order without signing up for billing software. Businesses that need inventory, three-way match automation or e-invoicing should use dedicated systems; this tool is for drafting and printing the PO.
