- Job guarantee hype — “guaranteed job” or “100% placement” without audited, dated placement data you can verify.
- Pressure countdown timers — fake scarcity and “offer ends in 00:59” loops that replace a clear syllabus.
- UPI / payment before syllabus — asking for money before you can read modules, grading, and refund terms.
- Fake university seals — logos that imply an IIT/IIM/foreign university award the programme does not actually confer.
- Certificate-only value — no projects, no graded work, no way to show skill beyond a PDF badge.

Skill India Digital / gov free path — Start at the official Skill India Digital Hub and free online courses page when budget is free-only or preference is India-gov. SIDH is India’s digital public infrastructure for skilling (NSDC ecosystem). We link it honestly when it fits — we do not pretend ScaleSaathi inventories every SIDH course better than the portal.
Coursera / Google Career Certificates path — Structured multi-month tracks (Data Analytics, Project Management, IT Support, UX, Cybersecurity, Digital Marketing, and advanced certificates) hosted on Coursera’s Google Career Certificates. Pricing is country-specific; verify India checkout and any financial aid. Good when you can commit months and want a known industry certificate — not when you only have a weekend.
NPTEL / SWAYAM academic path — NPTEL (IITs + IISc, MoE) and SWAYAM for university-style MOOCs. Learning is typically free; an optional proctored certification exam has historically been about ₹1,000 per course — verify the current exam fee on official pages. Prefer this when you need academic depth or a recognised exam credential.
LinkedIn Learning / subscription skim path — LinkedIn Learning for short skill skims and profile-visible completion. Often employer-paid. Weak as a sole career-switch plan; strong for business upskill under 10–40 hours.
Cohort / bootcamp caution path (upGrad-class) — Paid cohorts (example official home: upGrad) can add structure and mentors. Treat as a caution path: run red flags + outcome checklist; never accept unaudited “100% placement” as fact. ScaleSaathi does not invent placement rates.
