Read this before you read your in-hand figure

  1. Rules: tax year 2026-27 under the Income-tax Act 2025, with the EPF ceiling of ₹25,000 a month from 17 Sep 2026. Many older calculators still use ₹15,000. Rules last checked 23 Oct 2026.
  2. Defaults: 50% basic, and gratuity often at 4.81% of basic, which is a payroll convention, not a legal rate. Change them to match your offer.
  3. Tax: under the new regime the rebate is up to ₹60,000 when taxable income is ₹12 lakh or less. The standard deduction is ₹75,000 (₹50,000 in the old regime). Caps and the HRA formula are not applied to deductions you type in.
  4. Professional tax is built in only for the States the page verified; for others, enter it from your payslip (maximum ₹2,500 a year).
  5. It is an estimate: check your payslip and Form 130.

Salary Calculator: CTC to In-Hand (India, tax year 2026-27)

Free estimate. No sign-up. Everything runs in your browser; nothing is sent or stored.

Modes: CTC to in-hand, reverse (in-hand to CTC), old vs new with break-even, salary hike, and compare two offers.

Enter the monthly take-home you want. We solve for the annual CTC that produces it (defaults: 50% basic, EPF capped).

Only states with an officially verified slab are listed (MH, KA, Chennai, TG, MP, KL, NL). For West Bengal, Gujarat, Odisha, Assam, Andhra Pradesh and others we do not guess — choose Other and enter the amount from your payslip. Max ₹2,500/year (Art. 276(2)).

Salary structure & deductions

Old regime only: deductions & exemptions you are eligible for (₹/year)

Enter the final eligible amount for each item yourself. The tool adds them up but does not apply caps or the HRA formula (limits and section numbers under the new Act were not verified by us). Employee PF counts towards 80C if you include it here.

Employer NPS (if part of your CTC)

Employer NPS is paid into your NPS account, not your bank, so it is not in-hand. It is added to taxable salary and the deductible amount you enter is subtracted (both regimes). We do not apply the percentage limit; check it with your employer.

Estimate only. This is an indicative estimate for a resident individual with salary income only. Actual payroll depends on your employer’s salary structure, TDS projections, declarations and state rules. Not tax advice; check your payslip/Form 130 or a tax professional.

Last verified 23 Oct 2026

Assumptions: employer PF 12% (EDLI/admin charges not included in CTC); employee PF 12%; ESI applies when monthly gross ≤ ceiling; professional tax deducted from taxable salary only in the old regime; tax computed on annual figures, rounded to the rupee.

How CTC becomes your in-hand salary

In-hand salary is CTC minus employer costs, then minus your PF, ESI, professional tax and income tax.

CTC (cost to company) is everything your employer spends on you in a year. Your in-hand (take-home) salary is what reaches your bank after deductions. The steps:

  1. CTC − employer costs = gross salary. The employer takes out its own EPF share (12% of the PF wage, capped at ₹25,000 a month unless you are on full basic), the gratuity provision (often 4.81% of basic; this is a payroll convention, not a legal rate), employer ESI (3.25%, only if your monthly gross is ₹21,000 or less) and any employer NPS.
  2. Gross − your deductions = in-hand.
    • Employee EPF is 12%.
    • Employee ESI is 0.75%, only within the ESI ceiling.
    • Professional tax is set by your state, at most ₹2,500 a year.
    • Income tax is deducted monthly as TDS under s.392.
  3. Income tax is worked out on taxable income: gross minus the standard deduction (₹75,000 in the new regime, ₹50,000 in the old), then slabs, rebate, surcharge and 4% cess.

Worked example: ₹15 lakh CTC, new regime

StepAmount
CTC₹15,00,000
− Employer PF (12% of ₹25,000 × 12)₹36,000
− Gratuity (4.81% of ₹7,50,000 basic)₹36,075
= Gross salary₹14,27,925
− Standard deduction₹75,000
= Taxable income₹13,52,925
Slab tax (₹20,000 + ₹40,000 + 15% of ₹1,52,925)₹82,939
+ 4% cess = income tax₹86,256
In-hand = (14,27,925 − 36,000 employee PF − 86,256) ÷ 12₹1,08,806 a month

Assumes 50% basic, no bonus and no professional tax. Each case is reproduced in our test file.

Worked example: ₹12 lakh CTC, new vs old

  • New regime: taxable income is ₹10,60,140. That is under ₹12 lakh, so the s.156 rebate (up to ₹60,000) wipes out the ₹46,014 slab tax. Tax ₹0, in-hand ₹91,595 a month.
  • Old regime, no deductions: taxable income ₹10,85,140 gives tax of ₹1,43,564 and an in-hand of ₹79,631 a month.

Old vs new tax regime: which gives more in-hand?

The new tax regime usually pays more in-hand unless your old-regime deductions clear the break-even amount.

  • New regime (default, s.202):
    • Slabs: nil to ₹4L; 5% to ₹8L; 10% to ₹12L; 15% to ₹16L; 20% to ₹20L; 25% to ₹24L; 30% above.
    • ₹75,000 standard deduction.
    • Rebate up to ₹60,000 when taxable income is ₹12L or less, with marginal relief just above ₹12L. Example: at ₹12,10,000 the tax is limited to ₹10,000 + cess = ₹10,400.
    • Surcharge capped at 25%.
  • Old regime (opt out under s.202(4)):
    • Slabs: nil to ₹2.5L (₹3L at 60–79, ₹5L at 80+); 5% to ₹5L; 20% to ₹10L; 30% above.
    • ₹50,000 standard deduction.
    • Rebate up to ₹12,500 when taxable income is ₹5L or less.
    • You can claim exemptions and deductions such as HRA, 80C, 80D and home-loan interest. Professional tax is deductible only in the old regime.
  • The break-even test. The old regime wins only if your deductions are large enough. With our defaults you need about ₹5,25,800 of old-regime deductions at ₹15L CTC, and about ₹7,88,200 at ₹25L, just to equal the new regime. At ₹12L CTC the new regime’s tax is zero, so no deduction amount makes the old regime cheaper. The “Old vs New” tab works out your own break-even.
  • Employer NPS is different. It sits inside CTC and is deductible in both regimes, within the limit your employer confirms. Example: at ₹15L CTC with ₹60,000 employer NPS, new-regime tax falls from ₹86,256 to ₹76,896.

Salary hike calculator: what a raise does to in-hand

A salary hike raises CTC first; in-hand rises by less after tax, PF and cess.

A hike applies to CTC, but your in-hand rises by less, because of tax slabs, PF and cess. Use the “Salary hike” tab: enter the current CTC and the hike %, and it shows the new CTC and the extra take-home each month. Formula: new CTC = current CTC × (1 + hike% ÷ 100); hike % = (new − old) ÷ old × 100. To compare a job switch, use “Compare 2 offers”. It also accounts for a different basic %.

India specifics this calculator handles

This tool uses tax year 2026-27 slabs, the ₹25,000 EPF ceiling from 17 Sep 2026, ESI rules and verified state professional tax only.

  • EPF ceiling: ₹25,000 a month from 17 Sep 2026 (EPFO, S.O. 5109(E)). Many older calculators still use ₹15,000, which understates PF for most salaried people.
  • Professional tax: varies by state.
    • Built-in slabs, from official sources only: Maharashtra (men/women), Karnataka, Chennai Corporation (half-yearly), Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala (half-yearly) and Nagaland.
    • For West Bengal, Gujarat, Odisha, Assam, Andhra Pradesh and any other state not listed, enter the amount from your payslip. We do not invent slabs (those states are UNVERIFIED or CONFLICT in our facts file).
  • ESI: applies only up to ₹21,000 gross a month (₹25,000 for persons with disability).
  • Tax law: from 1 Apr 2026 salary is taxed under the Income-tax Act 2025. Your annual TDS certificate is Form 130 (formerly Form 16), and the year is called tax year 2026-27.

Salary calculator FAQ

How do I calculate in-hand salary from CTC?

Subtract employer PF, gratuity and any employer ESI or NPS from CTC to get gross salary. Then subtract employee PF, ESI, professional tax and income tax (TDS). Divide by 12 for the monthly figure.

What is the CTC for ₹50,000 in-hand per month?

With 50% basic, EPF capped at ₹25,000, gratuity in CTC, the new regime and no professional tax, it is about ₹6.89 lakh (₹6,88,560). Your employer’s structure can change this; use the In-hand → CTC tab.

What is the CTC for ₹27,000 salary per month?

On the same assumptions, about ₹3.79 lakh (₹3,78,536) for ₹27,000 in-hand.

What is the difference between gross and net (in-hand) salary?

Gross salary is what you earn before your own deductions (CTC minus employer contributions). Net or in-hand is gross minus employee PF, ESI, professional tax and TDS.

How much tax will I pay on my salary in the new regime?

Nothing if taxable income (after the ₹75,000 standard deduction) is ₹12 lakh or less, thanks to the s.156 rebate. Above that, slab rates of 15% to 30% apply, plus 4% cess. Example: ₹86,256 on a ₹15 lakh CTC.

How do I calculate my annual income from a monthly salary?

Multiply monthly gross by 12 and add any annual bonus or variable pay. For tax, subtract the standard deduction (and, in the old regime, your eligible deductions).

Is the new or old tax regime better for me?

The new regime gives more in-hand unless your old-regime deductions exceed the break-even amount. That is about ₹5.26 lakh at ₹15 lakh CTC on our defaults. The tool calculates your exact break-even.

Does this calculator use the ₹25,000 EPF wage ceiling?

Yes. The default caps the PF wage at ₹25,000 a month, as notified by EPFO from 17 September 2026. You can switch to PF on full basic or no PF.

Why is my in-hand different from my payslip?

Employers project TDS through the year, may pay bonus separately, and use their own structure and state rules. Treat this as an estimate and check your payslip and Form 130.

Is my salary data saved?

No. Everything runs in your browser. A share link only copies your inputs into the page address.

How to convert CTC to in-hand salary?

Subtract employer PF, gratuity provision and any employer ESI or NPS from CTC to get gross. Then subtract employee PF, ESI, professional tax and TDS. Divide by 12 for monthly in-hand. The CTC → In-hand tab does this for tax year 2026-27.

What is 3.5 CTC in-hand salary?

On our defaults (50% basic, EPF capped at ₹25,000, gratuity in CTC, new regime, no professional tax), ₹3.5 lakh CTC is about ₹24,965 a month in-hand (tax ₹0 after the standard deduction and rebate band).

What is the CTC for ₹30,000 in-hand per month?

About ₹4.21 lakh (₹4,20,587) on the same defaults. Use the In-hand → CTC tab for your state and structure.

What is the CTC for ₹60,000 in-hand per month?

About ₹8.12 lakh (₹8,11,517) on the same defaults. Your employer’s basic %, PF policy and professional tax change the answer.
