GST Calculator: Add or Remove GST with CGST, SGST and IGST Split

Add GST to a price, remove GST from an inclusive amount, or work back from a GST amount in one step. The quick calculator at the top fills all three boxes as you type. Pick a rate (5%, 18%, 40%, or the special 3%, 1.5% and 0.25% rates) or type your own, choose the supplier’s and buyer’s State (or use the Intra-State / Inter-State shortcut), and see the exact CGST + SGST/UTGST or IGST split. You can also bill several items at different rates, add a cess, switch the tool to Hindi, copy or share the result, and save it as a PDF. Rates follow the GST changes from 22 September 2025. It is free, needs no sign-up, and your numbers never leave your browser.

GST basics this calculator uses

  • Rates: 5% and 18% are the main rates, 40% the special rate, plus 3%, 1.5% and 0.25% for gold, jewellery and diamonds, from 22 Sep 2025. 12% and 28% are old rates, only for bills dated before the change. Rates last checked 27 Oct 2026.
  • Your rate: It depends on your HSN or SAC code. The calculator does not look up HSN codes.
  • Removing GST: Don’t take 18% of the inclusive price. The GST inside ₹11,800 is ₹11,800 × 18 ÷ 118 = ₹1,800, not ₹2,124.
  • Which tax: Same State: CGST + SGST (or UTGST). Different States: IGST.

Method: each tax is worked out on the taxable value and rounded to the paisa; CGST and SGST/UTGST are each half the rate. For “Remove GST”, taxable value = price × 100 ÷ (100 + GST rate + cess rate), and any paisa difference is shown as round-off.

How to calculate GST: the formulas

GST on an exclusive price is amount × rate ÷ 100; reverse GST from a total uses total × rate ÷ (100 + rate).

    • Add GST (exclusive price): GST = amount × rate ÷ 100. Total = amount + GST.
    • Remove GST (inclusive price, reverse GST): price before GST = total × 100 ÷ (100 + rate). GST = total − price before GST, which is the same as total × rate ÷ (100 + rate).
    • Split: within one State, CGST = SGST (or UTGST) = half the rate each. Between States, IGST = the full rate.
    • Cess: if your item carries a cess, enter its rate. It is added on the taxable value and is not split.

    How rounding works

Each tax is worked out on the price before GST and rounded to the nearest paisa (0.5 paisa and above rounds up). CGST and SGST are rounded separately, so CGST + SGST can be 1 paisa more or less than IGST on the same bill. When you remove GST from a price, any leftover paisa is shown as a round-off so the total still equals the price you typed. Tick "Round the total to the nearest rupee" in the invoice calculator to round the final total to whole rupees. Always follow the figures on your actual tax invoice.

Multi-item example: one invoice, three rates

2 laptop bags at ₹1,200 (18%), 10 notebooks at ₹60 (5%) and a gold ring at ₹25,000 (3%), all within one State. Taxable value ₹28,000. GST by rate: 18% → ₹432.00, 5% → ₹30.00, 3% → ₹750.00. Total GST ₹1,212.00 (CGST ₹606 + SGST ₹606). Invoice total ₹29,212.00. Use the "Multiple items" tab to build your own; it shows totals for each rate.

The 56th GST Council meeting (3 Sep 2025) replaced the four main slabs (5%, 12%, 18%, 28%) with a merit rate of 5%, a standard rate of 18% and a special 40% rate for a few goods. The new rates applied from 22 September 2025. Tobacco products followed on 1 February 2026: most moved to 40%, bidi to 18%, the 28% schedule was dropped, and compensation cess on them became nil.

CGST, SGST, UTGST or IGST: which applies?

IGST is charged on inter-State supplies; CGST plus SGST or UTGST applies when supplier and place of supply are in the same State or UT.

    • Same State (intra-State): CGST goes to the Centre and SGST to the State, each at half the rate.
    • Same Union Territory without a legislature: CGST plus UTGST. These UTs are Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Lakshadweep and Ladakh. Delhi, Puducherry and Jammu and Kashmir have legislatures and charge SGST.
    • Different States or UTs (inter-State): IGST at the full rate, collected by the Centre.

The calculator compares the supplier's State with the buyer's State (the place of supply). For services, imports, exports, SEZ supplies and other special cases the place of supply follows its own rules, so confirm it before you invoice.

Reverse GST: removing GST from an inclusive price

Reverse GST finds the taxable value inside an inclusive price with total × 100 ÷ (100 + rate), not by taking rate percent off the total.

A common mistake is to take 18% off the inclusive price. ₹11,800 × 18% is ₹2,124, which is wrong. The GST inside ₹11,800 is ₹11,800 × 18 ÷ 118 = ₹1,800. Pick "Remove GST" and the calculator does this for you, including any cess you enter.

    GST calculator FAQ

How do I calculate GST on an amount?

Multiply the amount by the GST rate and divide by 100. Add that to the amount for the total. Example: ₹10,000 at 18% gives GST of ₹1,800 and a total of ₹11,800.

How do I calculate GST from a total that already includes GST?

    Use GST = total × rate ÷ (100 + rate), and price before GST = total × 100 ÷ (100 + rate). Example: ₹11,800 including 18% GST is ₹10,000 plus ₹1,800 GST.

What is 18% GST of ₹20,000?

₹3,600, so the total is ₹23,600. Within one state that is CGST ₹1,800 plus SGST ₹1,800; across states it is IGST ₹3,600.

How do I calculate CGST and SGST?

Within the same State, split the GST rate into two equal halves. At 18%, CGST is 9% and SGST is 9% of the taxable value. Each is worked out on the taxable value, so ₹10,000 at 18% gives CGST ₹900 and SGST ₹900.

When is IGST charged instead of CGST and SGST?

IGST applies to inter-State supplies, where the supplier and the place of supply are in different States or Union Territories. CGST plus SGST (or UTGST) applies when both are in the same State or UT.

    What is UTGST?

UTGST replaces SGST for supplies within a Union Territory that has no legislature: Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Lakshadweep and Ladakh. Delhi, Puducherry and Jammu and Kashmir charge SGST.

What are the GST rates in India now?

From 22 September 2025 the main rates are 5% and 18%, with a special 40% rate for a few goods and services. The goods rate notification also has 3% (for example gold, silver and jewellery), 1.5% and 0.25% (diamonds and precious stones). Some items are nil-rated or exempt. Check the entry for your HSN or SAC code.

Are the 12% and 28% GST slabs still used?

For goods, the rate notification in force from 22 September 2025 has no 12% schedule; items moved mostly to 5% or 18%. The 28% schedule was kept only for some tobacco products and was omitted from 1 February 2026, when those moved to 40% (bidi to 18%). The calculator keeps 12% and 28% only for checking older invoices.

How do I calculate GST in Excel?

If the amount is in A2: GST =A2*18/100, total =A2*118/100. If A2 already includes GST: GST =A2*18/118 and price before GST =A2*100/118. For CGST at 9%: =ROUND(A2*9/100,2).

Why does my CGST plus SGST differ from IGST by a paisa?

Because CGST and SGST are each rounded separately. Example: ₹333 at 5% gives CGST ₹8.33 + SGST ₹8.33 = ₹16.66, while IGST is ₹16.65.

Is this GST calculator free, and is my data saved?

It is free and needs no sign-up. Everything runs in your browser. Your last 10 quick calculations are kept only in this browser so you can tap to reuse them, and you can clear them at any time. A share link only puts your inputs in the page address.

How do I find the price if I only know the GST amount?

Divide the GST amount by the rate and multiply by 100. Example: GST of ₹1,800 at 18% means a price before GST of ₹1,800 × 100 ÷ 18 = ₹10,000, so the price with GST is ₹11,800. In the quick calculator, type the GST amount in the middle box and the other two fill in.

How to calculate GST from total amount (reverse GST calculation formula)?

When the price already includes GST, taxable value = total × 100 ÷ (100 + rate), and GST = total − taxable value (same as total × rate ÷ (100 + rate)). Example: from ₹11,800 at 18%, taxable value is ₹10,000 and GST is ₹1,800. Use Remove GST in the calculator.

How do I calculate GST on MRP?

If MRP is the GST-inclusive ceiling price, remove GST with taxable value = MRP × 100 ÷ (100 + rate). If your selling price is exclusive of GST, add GST = price × rate ÷ 100. Always confirm whether the MRP or list price is inclusive or exclusive before you invoice.

What is the difference between a GST exclusive and GST inclusive price?

A GST exclusive (ex-GST) price does not include tax: you add GST to get the total. A GST inclusive (MRP-style) price already includes tax: you remove GST to find the taxable value. The twin panel under the calculator shows both for the same amount and rate.

What changed in GST rates after 22 September 2025?

From 22 September 2025 the main slabs became 5% and 18%, with a special 40% rate for a few goods, after the 56th GST Council (3 September 2025). Tobacco products moved on 1 February 2026 (most to 40%, bidi to 18%). The 57th Council on 8 October 2026 did not change the main slabs.
