Most new sites don’t need Cloudways yet. I’d keep a site on shared hosting until it hits a problem you can actually measure: repeated CPU or memory limits, slow responses at peak times, or a store where downtime now costs real sales.
One year, everything in
| about ₹828Hostinger Single, a year (₹3,312 for 48 months) | $132Cloudways DigitalOcean 2 GB, a year | $1.50per mailbox a month on Cloudways |
- Move when your graphs show it: repeated CPU or memory limits or 5xx errors, slow origin response after caching and image fixes, a need for staging, campaign peaks, or downtime with a revenue cost.
- Don’t move because a page is slow before you have fixed images and plugins.
- Don’t forget the shared renewal: ₹289 a month after the term.
- Cloudways backups are metered (about $8 a year for 20 GB, an illustrative example).
- Test a Cloudways copy during the free trial, and keep the old plan until email, logs and payments are verified.
Prices seen 30 October 2026, before tax.
Also, don’t compare Cloudways’ $11 entry server with a ₹69 shared-hosting price. Add the domain, email, metered backups and currency conversion first. And check your images and plugins before blaming the plan. A slow page is often a design problem, not a hosting one.
Quick decision
Stay shared while it works; upgrade when evidence justifies operations
Shared hosting is the right economic starting point for most new sites. Cloudways becomes the better tool when real traffic, sales or development workflows justify clearer resources, server location choice, staging and scaling. An upgrade should solve a measured constraint. Paying more before a site has content or users rarely creates growth by itself.
Shared hosting for validation; Cloudways for growing revenue sites and teams with technical ownership.
Cloudways is unnecessary for most empty new sites; cheap shared hosting is risky for a proven critical store at its limits.
What to know first
- Shared hosting bundles simplicity and low cost; managed cloud separates more infrastructure decisions.
- Cloudways offers provider, resource and Bangalore-location choices with hourly billing.
- A slow page can be caused by design and plugins, not the hosting tier.
- Upgrade triggers should include resource errors, peak-time latency, workflow needs or business risk.
Side-by-side comparison

✓ Strengths
- Shared hosting preserves cash during validation
- Cloudways exposes a clearer growth path
- WordPress portability allows a staged decision
— Limitations
- Shared plan limits may be difficult to interpret
- Cloud costs and add-ons need active oversight
- Migration introduces DNS, email and testing risk
What you buy with shared hosting
A shared plan pools infrastructure and packages management into a predictable tier. It is efficient for low-to-moderate traffic and removes server sizing from the founder's first checklist. Providers such as Hostinger and Bluehost add WordPress installers, SSL, backups and support around that model.
The limitation is less visibility into contention and hard plan limits. Marketing labels such as unlimited usually remain subject to fair-use and resource rules. Read storage, backup frequency and account limits rather than assuming the word removes capacity constraints.
What changes with Cloudways
Cloudways lets you choose cloud infrastructure, server size and location, then manages much of the application stack. Staging, firewall tools, SSL, migration and monitoring are integrated. You gain more levers, and somebody must understand why and when to use them.
The $11 entry server is not comparable to a ₹69 shared-hosting badge without term and inclusions. Add domain, email, backup storage, currency conversion and paid add-ons. The benefit is operational control, not the claim that every cloud page must be faster.
Five evidence-based upgrade signals
Upgrade after basic optimisation when the current plan repeatedly hits CPU or memory limits, origin response degrades at peak times, important deployments need staging, traffic campaigns require scaling, or downtime risk has a measurable revenue cost. Keep screenshots and monitoring records so the new setup can be evaluated against a baseline.
- Repeated resource-limit or 5xx errors
- Slow origin response after caching and image fixes
- Need for isolated staging or multiple deployment environments
- Predictable campaign peaks or store events
- Support and recovery requirements tied to revenue
The fair comparison: one year, everything included
Here is the comparison done properly for one small site. Prices seen 30 October 2026 on the providers’ own pages. The figures come from the Hostinger India web hosting page and the Cloudways pricing page, before tax. The backup size is an illustrative example, not a provider figure:
| Line | Shared: Hostinger Single (48-month term) | Cloudways: DigitalOcean 2 GB |
|---|---|---|
| Hosting | ₹3,312 for 48 months, about ₹828 a year | $11 × 12 = $132 |
| Backups | Weekly, included | About $8 a year if 20 GB is stored (illustrative example) |
| Year-one total | About ₹828 + GST | About $140 + tax and card conversion |
| Renewal | ₹289/month after the term | Unchanged |
The Cloudways figure is many times the shared one. That isn’t a reason to avoid Cloudways. Email is extra on Cloudways too, at $1.50 per mailbox a month on its add-on card. It’s the price of a server whose size you control, so the move has to be justified by one of the signals above showing up in your own data.
Three years, and how Cloudways bills
One year flatters Cloudways’ critics, because shared hosting is sold on long terms. Over three years, Hostinger Single costs ₹3,312 on the 48-month term and doesn’t renew until year five, at ₹289 a month. Premium, the plan you need for more than one site, costs ₹6,672 for 48 months and renews at ₹449. Cloudways has no promotional term: the $11 DigitalOcean server is $396 over three years, plus about $24 of backup storage at 20 GB, before tax.
The billing mechanics on the Cloudways pricing page matter as much as the price. Usage is tracked hourly and invoiced on the 1st for the previous month. On DigitalOcean, Vultr and Linode, the hourly rate is the monthly price divided by 672 hours and capped at the monthly price. A stopped server still bills, so delete test servers rather than stopping them. Offsite backups are mandatory at $0.033 per GB. Cloudways takes Visa, Mastercard, Amex and PayPal, applies tax by billing country, and a registered business can enter its GST ID for exemption on future invoices. For yearly budgeting, you can prepay a wallet with roughly 12 months of estimated cost.
What Cloudways leaves out, and what it adds
Cloudways sells servers, not a bundle. There is no domain registration and no included mailbox, so a business that moves from a shared plan with free email has to set that up first. The add-ons are priced separately:
- Rackspace email at $1.50 per mailbox a month
- Malware protection from $4 per app a month
- SafeUpdates for WordPress from $3 a month
- Cloudflare Enterprise CDN from $4.99 per domain a month
- Advanced Support at $100 a month, or 10% of the invoice; a lifetime offer of $25 a month was showing on 30 October 2026
In return, every server includes free staging, Let’s Encrypt SSL, an Imunify360 firewall, 24/7 chat and ticket support, and unlimited applications up to what the server can carry. Cloudways’ own rule for upsizing is useful: if CPU or RAM sits above 80% consistently, move up a plan. It also migrates your first site free from any host. Shared plans cap sites instead: Hostinger Single allows one website, so a second project already pushes you to Premium.
Free trial and unpaid-invoice rules
The Flexible trial runs 5 days with no card, on DigitalOcean, Vultr or Linode only; AWS and Google Cloud aren’t included. When it ends, the server is deleted unless you add a payment method, which restores it with its apps and data. Build your test copy early in the trial and run the same page tests on both hosts before day five.
Know the late-payment timeline, because the charge is in US dollars and fails if your card isn’t enabled for international payments. Cloudways’ pricing FAQ lists the steps: on day 7 the dashboard is restricted, on day 10 servers and apps stop, on day 13 they’re deleted, and on day 28 backups go too. Keep a second payment method on file.
What it costs to move too early, or too late
Moving too early is easy to undo. Cloudways bills by the hour, so a test server you delete after a week costs a few dollars. Moving too late costs more: a shop or lead-generation site that runs out of resources at a busy time loses orders you can’t recover. My rule is simple. If your host’s resource graphs show you hitting limits regularly, or support keeps pointing to plan limits, set up a Cloudways copy during the free trial and compare the two with the same page tests before you pay for anything.
A safe migration sequence
Create a complete independent backup, lower DNS time-to-live, copy the site to the new server, test forms and transactions through a temporary URL, then change DNS during a quiet period. Keep the old plan active until logs, email routing and payments are verified.
For a content site, protect URL structure and redirects. For a store, plan order synchronisation and a short change freeze. A faster server is not a successful migration if leads or historical URLs break.

Frequently asked questions
How much traffic needs Cloudways?
There is no universal visit number. Concurrent requests, plugins, caching and revenue sensitivity matter. Upgrade based on monitored resource and response problems.
Is shared hosting bad for SEO?
No. Reliable shared hosting can serve fast, crawlable pages. Persistent downtime or slow response can hurt users, but the hosting label itself is not a ranking verdict.
Can Cloudways host more than one site?
Cloudways allows multiple applications subject to server capacity and product terms. Important sites may deserve isolation instead of maximising the count.
Should I move before my current renewal?
Review options several weeks before renewal, but move only after backup and testing. Avoid a rushed DNS change on the expiry date.
Does Cloudways include email or a domain?
No. Cloudways doesn’t register domains or include mailboxes. Rackspace email is an add-on at $1.50 per mailbox a month.
What happens when the Cloudways free trial ends?
The trial server is deleted unless you add a payment method. Adding one restores the server with its apps and data.
Can I pay Cloudways yearly?
Billing is monthly and usage-based, but you can prepay a wallet with about 12 months of estimated cost and invoices are deducted from it.
