Wix vs Shopify for Indian Sellers (2026): Real Cost, Fees and GST

Last updated 30 October 2026

Prices seen 30 October 2026 on Shopify’s India pricing page (in rupees) and Wix’s plans page (in US dollars).

For an Indian seller, two lines on these price pages decide most of the bill. Shopify charges an extra fee on every prepaid order taken through Razorpay or any other Indian gateway. Wix charges no such fee that we could find, but its plans cost more: Core is $29 a month against Shopify Basic’s ₹1,499. Which of these hurts you more depends on how much you sell prepaid.

Where the money goes after the plan fee

  • Shopify’s extra fee. On a Razorpay or other third-party gateway order it takes 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced, on top of the gateway fee. COD orders carry none.
  • Wix is priced in dollars. Core is $29 a month (about ₹2,552) against Shopify Basic at ₹1,499 billed yearly or ₹1,994 monthly.
  • Budget at list price. Wix’s 50% offer is for the first term only.
  • Light can’t take payments. To sell on Wix you need Core or higher; Wix caps a store at 50,000 products.
  • Staff logins cost extra on Shopify. Basic has no staff accounts; Grow is ₹5,599.
  • GST paperwork. Neither makes a GST invoice on its own, so plan for an app. On Shopify, add your GSTIN to billing early.
  • Leaving Wix. A Wix site can’t be hosted elsewhere, and product CSV export runs to 5,000 rows a file.

Our verdict: below about ₹52,650 a month of prepaid sales (about ₹96,650 a month if you need Wix Business), Shopify Basic is the cheaper store, because Wix Core’s regular price ($29, about ₹2,552) is higher than Shopify Basic’s ₹1,499. Above that, Shopify’s 2% fee on Razorpay orders outweighs the plan gap and Wix costs less, by ₹1,71,088 to ₹4,02,095 over three years for our two larger example sellers. Choose on features if your sales sit near the line.

Which one fits your kind of seller

Small shop, mostly COD

Shopify Basic, on cost. With little prepaid volume, its 2% fee is small, and ₹1,499 a month beats Wix Core’s $29 (about ₹2,552).

Services, classes or a portfolio with a shop

Wix. It includes bookings, a blog and a shop on one plan; on Shopify, bookings need an app.

Product brand doing lakhs a month prepaid

Wix costs less, because Shopify takes 2% of prepaid sales on Basic. Pick Shopify anyway if you want its order tools and app range, and move to Grow once prepaid sales pass about ₹4,10,000 a month.

Selling abroad in other currencies

Neither is simple from India. Shopify’s local-currency prices and local payment methods need Shopify Payments, which India does not have. Wix’s multi-currency checkout needs Wix Payments, PayPal or Stripe. On either, a Razorpay store charges in rupees; PayPal is the usual route for foreign buyers.

Wix renewal and the time-limited discount

Wix lists Core at $29 a month on yearly billing; it prints no separate renewal price, so we assume renewal at that price. Confirm on the purchase page. On 29 October 2026 the Wix plans page also showed a 50% first-term offer (Core $14.50, Business $19.50, Business Elite $79.50), marked “Offer valid until Thursday 7:00 AM GMT. Only valid for the initial term of yearly/multi-year subscriptions.” It disappeared on one check that day and reappeared later, so we use the regular price as the main case.

In rupees, at our estimate of ₹88 per US$: Core is about ₹30,624 a year before tax. Wix says “Prices and currency vary by location. USD prices displayed for reference only”, taxes are “determined according to your billing address” and shows the final price only on the purchase page; we add 18% GST as an assumption. More in our Shopify pricing in India guide.

Wix’s plan comparison table also shows a “Pricing Plans transaction fee” of 4% on Core, 2% on Business and 0% on Business Elite. That row is for Wix’s Pricing Plans feature, not the product checkout. Check it if you plan to sell paid plans on Wix.

Razorpay, UPI and COD: Shopify’s extra fee

Shopify’s lowest fees come through Shopify Payments, but India is not on the list of countries where it is available. So an Indian Shopify store uses Razorpay, PayU, Cashfree or similar, and Shopify adds a third-party transaction fee: 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced, on top of the gateway’s own fee.

On a ₹1,000 UPI order on Shopify Basic you pay about ₹20 to Shopify (plus GST) and about ₹23.60 to Razorpay (2% plus 18% GST). On Wix, Razorpay’s help page lists only Razorpay’s fee, “from 2% per transaction”. Wix’s help pages list no extra Wix fee for third-party gateways, but Wix does not state this either way, so confirm on the purchase page.

Gateways you can connect in India

Wix lists PayPal, Razorpay, PayU India, Cashfree Payments, Paytm, Easebuzz, airpay and Nimbbl for India. Shopify connects Indian gateways through its third-party payment providers. Our Cashfree vs Razorpay comparison covers which gateway to pick.

Cash on delivery

COD is a manual payment method on both. Shopify’s help centre says you are not charged third-party transaction fees for manual payments. Wix has no true COD option; you set up a manual payment titled “Cash on delivery”, and its help page mentions no fee. So every order moved from prepaid to COD removes Shopify’s fee on that order.

COD and returns: what each handles

For most Indian stores, COD is not a payment choice but a returns problem. A refused COD parcel costs you shipping both ways and earns nothing, so what matters is how much control you get before you ship.

  • Wix: the Wix feature request for COD in India says it is “not possible” to accept cash on delivery as such, and points to the manual payment method as the workaround (seen 30 October 2026). The order arrives marked unpaid, and you collect through your courier.
  • Shopify: COD is also a manual payment, with no third-party fee. The difference is the app store: COD order confirmation, pincode checks and partial-prepaid apps plug into checkout, and couriers such as Shiprocket on the Shopify App Store pull orders in automatically.
  • Couriers: shipping aggregators collect the cash and remit it to you on either platform. Shiprocket’s Shopify integration page offers COD or prepaid collection with orders synced from the store (seen 30 October 2026); Shiprocket also markets a Wix integration, but check how orders sync before you rely on it.

If more than half your orders will be COD, the practical routine is the same on both: confirm each COD order by WhatsApp or call before packing, cap COD on high-value carts, and offer a small prepaid discount. Shopify makes that easier to automate; on Wix you will do more of it by hand.

3-year cost for three Indian sellers

Labelled examples. Assumptions: yearly billing; Wix at its listed regular price (the 29 Oct first-term offer shown as a side column); dollar prices converted at an estimated ₹88 per US$, with no bank forex markup on Wix’s dollar charges; 18% GST on plan, app and gateway fees (Shopify confirms GST on its bills without a GSTIN; Wix says tax depends on billing address); Shopify’s 1.5% conversion fee on dollar app charges; Razorpay 2% + GST on prepaid orders on both; no Wix gateway fee; domains left out.

Seller A: small boutique, mostly COD

30 orders/month at ₹1,000, 60% cash on delivery, one person. GST invoice app on both (WebPlanex $4.99 on Shopify; Softpulse Starter $5 on Wix, 100 invoices/month). Sales: ₹3,60,000 a year. Shopify Basic vs Wix Core.

3 years Shopify Basic Wix Core (regular price) Wix with 29 Oct 50% offer
Plan ₹53,964 ₹91,872 ₹76,560
Shopify third-party fee on prepaid orders ₹8,640 ₹0 ₹0
Apps ₹16,045 ₹15,840 ₹15,840

Shopify minus Wix — -₹34,294 -₹16,226

Seller B: prepaid D2C brand

250 orders/month at ₹1,500, 85% prepaid by UPI/cards through Razorpay. GST app (Shopify $4.99; Wix Premium $10 for unlimited invoices) plus $15/month of other apps (reviews, WhatsApp alerts) on both. Sales: ₹45,00,000 a year. Shopify Basic vs Wix Business.

3 years Shopify Basic Wix Business (regular price) Wix with 29 Oct 50% offer
Plan ₹53,964 ₹1,23,552 ₹1,02,960
Shopify third-party fee on prepaid orders ₹2,29,500 ₹0 ₹0

3-year total ₹6,81,146 ₹5,10,057 ₹4,85,759
Shopify minus Wix — ₹1,71,088 ₹1,95,387

Seller C: growing team of four

800 orders/month at ₹1,200, 80% prepaid, four people who need their own logins. Shopify Grow (Basic has no extra staff accounts) vs Wix Business (10 collaborators; Core’s 5 would also cover four people, but Business leaves room for the team to grow and lifts other Core limits). GST app plus $40/month of other apps on both. Sales: ₹1,15,20,000 a year. Shopify Grow vs Wix Business.

3 years Shopify Grow Wix Business (regular price) Wix with 29 Oct 50% offer
Plan ₹2,01,564 ₹1,23,552 ₹1,02,960
Shopify third-party fee on prepaid orders ₹2,76,480 ₹0 ₹0

3-year total ₹13,87,291 ₹9,85,196 ₹9,60,898
Shopify minus Wix — ₹4,02,095 ₹4,26,393
Bar chart comparing 3-year cost on Shopify and on Wix, at Wix’s regular prices, for three example Indian sellers

Seller A is cheaper on Shopify: by ₹34,294 (₹16,226 even with the 50% offer). Only ₹8,640 of Shopify’s cost is the third-party fee, because 60% of orders are COD. The plan price decides it: Wix Core costs more each month than Shopify Basic.

Seller B is cheaper on Wix by ₹1,71,088. Shopify’s fee is ₹2,29,500 over three years before GST, more than four times the Basic plan itself. Grow would not help: it costs ₹1,47,600 more and saves ₹1,14,750 in fees.

Seller C needs staff logins, which pushes it to Shopify Grow. On Wix, Core’s 5 collaborators would cover four people; we chose Business (10) for headroom as the team grows. Wix comes out ₹4,02,095 cheaper.

How firm is this? The 50% offer would widen Wix’s lead by about ₹18,000–₹24,000 but flips nothing. Results move if Wix renews above its listed prices or charges a fee on Razorpay orders. The ₹88 per US$ rate is an estimate: each ₹1 change moves the Core break-even by about ₹1,450, and we give Wix no bank forex markup, which slightly favours it. Near ₹52,650 a month in prepaid sales, app spend or COD share can tip the winner.

GST-registered sellers who add a GSTIN are exempt from GST on Shopify’s fees, per Shopify. Sellers B and C would normally be registered; removing GST on platform and app fees narrows B’s gap by about ₹26,098 and flips nothing.

Add your GSTIN in Shopify’s billing profile early: GST on past bills cannot be reversed. And moving orders to COD removes Shopify’s fee, though prepaid orders usually return less.

Limits that bite later

  • Catalogue size. Wix caps every store plan at 50,000 products. Shopify lists unlimited products.
  • Staff logins. Shopify Basic gives no extra staff accounts, so a team needs Grow at ₹5,599. Wix Core already allows 5 collaborators.
  • Back-in-stock alerts. Wix’s plan comparison table shows 10 a month on Core, unlimited on Business and Business Elite.
  • Selling in other currencies. Shopify’s local-currency selling needs Shopify Payments; Wix’s needs Wix Payments, PayPal or Stripe. From India, a Razorpay store charges in rupees on either.
  • Tax automation. Wix’s automatic tax calculation is not available in India, so you enter GST rates yourself.

GST: what neither does for you

Neither platform produces a GST-compliant invoice on its own. Shopify’s India GST FAQ tells you to use an app or a local invoicing service. On Shopify, WebPlanex’s GST Invoice India app starts at $4.99 a month. On Wix, GST Order Invoice India by Softpulse is free for 20 invoices a month, $5 a month for 100 and $10 for unlimited. Note the Wix free tier: at 30 orders a month you outgrow it in the first month.

Set up the tax side before loading products: your GSTIN on the store, the GST rate per product type, and the HSN code against every product. Then have your CA check one sample invoice. Our GST invoice format guide lists the fields.

Separately, Shopify adds GST to its own bills for Indian stores and bills USD app charges in rupees with a 1.5% conversion fee. Shopify’s third-party transaction fees are not subject to that conversion fee.

Mistakes we see sellers make

  • Budgeting Razorpay’s 2% and forgetting Shopify’s. On Basic a prepaid order carries both. At ₹3 lakh a month prepaid that is ₹6,000 a month to Shopify before GST.
  • Letting small apps pile up. Seller B’s $20 a month of apps came to ₹64,278 over three years on Shopify. List every app’s monthly charge before you install it, and remove trials you stopped using.
  • Buying Wix Light for a shop. It cannot accept payments.
  • Budgeting on a promo price. Wix’s 50% offer is time-limited and first-term only; budget at the listed price.
  • Assuming Shopify fixes exports. Without Shopify Payments, an Indian Shopify store has the same rupee-only Razorpay checkout as Wix; plan on PayPal for foreign buyers.
  • Leaving HSN codes until the first B2B order. Adding them to 300 products later is a lost weekend.

Changing your design later

On Wix the template is permanent. Wix’s help centre says it is not possible to switch the template of a site you have already created; a new look means a new site and moving content across (seen 30 October 2026). Pick the template for how the store will look in two years, not next week.

Shopify separates the theme from the store. You can install a new theme, edit it unpublished, and switch when ready; products, customers and orders stay where they are. For a seller who expects to refresh the look every festive season, that is a real day-to-day difference.

Lock-in and moving later

This is the strongest argument against starting on Wix if you expect to outgrow it. Wix says plainly that a Wix site cannot be hosted elsewhere because it runs on Wix’s own technology. Your content belongs to you, but the design does not travel. You can export physical products to CSV, up to 5,000 rows per file; digital products cannot be exported at all.

Shopify’s theme is not portable either. If you think you will need Shopify within two years, start there and skip a rebuild. If you do move, redirect every old product URL, set up the gateway and GST rates again, and test a real low-value order before switching DNS.

Download the cost calculator

Enter your orders, order value, share of COD, plan choices, Wix’s dollar prices (and any first-term discount), app spend and the day’s dollar rate. The sheet shows the 3-year total on each platform and how much of the gap is Shopify’s third-party fee.

Our verdict

Choose Wix if you sell several lakh a month prepaid and mainly in rupees, or your site is as much about services and content as the shop. Above roughly ₹52,650 a month of prepaid sales (about ₹96,650 a month if you need Wix Business) it was cheaper in our examples.

Choose Shopify if you are small or COD-heavy (its ₹1,499 Basic beats Wix Core’s $29), or you want the deepest app choice. Treat its third-party fee as part of the price, and check every few months whether your prepaid sales justify Grow.

Frequently asked questions

Does Wix or Shopify charge extra if I use Razorpay?

Shopify does. Shopify Payments is not offered in India, so Indian stores use a third-party gateway such as Razorpay, and Shopify’s India pricing page lists a third-party transaction fee of 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow and 0.6% on Advanced, on top of Razorpay’s own fee. Wix’s Razorpay help page lists only Razorpay’s fee (from 2% per transaction) and we found no Wix fee on it, but Wix does not state either way, so confirm on the purchase page. Shopify says it charges no third-party fee on manual payments such as cash on delivery.

How much do Shopify and Wix cost per month?

On 29 October 2026 Shopify’s India page showed Basic at ₹1,499 a month paid yearly (₹1,994 monthly), Grow ₹5,599 (₹7,447) and Advanced ₹22,680 (₹30,164). Wix’s plans page showed US dollar prices for yearly billing: Core $29, Business $39 and Business Elite $159 a month, displayed “for reference only”. Both exclude tax. On 29 October 2026 Wix also showed a time-limited 50% first-term offer.

Which Wix plan do I need to sell online?

Core or higher. Wix’s plans page lists accept payments on Core, Business and Business Elite; the Light plan cannot accept payments. Wix Help confirms up to 50,000 products. Business gives 10 collaborators instead of Core’s 5.

Can Wix make GST invoices?

Not by itself. Wix’s automatic tax calculation is not available in India, so you set GST rates manually, and for GST invoices you add an app. GST Order Invoice India on the Wix App Market is free for 20 invoices a month and $5 or $10 a month for more. Shopify is in the same position: its GST FAQ says it does not create a GST-compliant bill.

How many products can I sell on Wix?

Up to 50,000 on every Wix store plan. Shopify’s pricing page says you can sell unlimited products on every plan.

Can I move from Wix to Shopify later?

Yes, but plan it. Wix exports physical products to CSV (up to 5,000 rows per file; digital products cannot be exported), and Shopify imports products by CSV. A Wix site design cannot be hosted elsewhere, so the storefront is rebuilt, and you need redirects from old product URLs.

Can a Wix store take cash on delivery in India?

Only as a workaround. Wix’s help centre says COD is not currently possible as a payment method and suggests a manual payment instead (seen 30 October 2026). The order comes in unpaid and your courier collects the cash. Shopify also treats COD as a manual payment, but has more apps to confirm COD orders and limit returns.

Can I change my Wix template after the store is live?

No. Wix’s help centre says you cannot switch the template of an existing site; you build a new site and move content (seen 30 October 2026). Shopify lets you change themes without touching products or orders.
