Quick answer: Shopify in India costs ₹1,499/month on Basic when paid yearly (₹17,988 a year), or ₹1,994 month to month. Grow is ₹5,599 and Advanced ₹22,680 a month, paid yearly. Add 18% GST, plus a 2% to 0.6% fee on each online sale. Shopify’s India pricing page
Shopify pricing in India starts at ₹1,499 per month equivalent on Basic when paid yearly, or ₹1,994 on monthly billing, before taxes and extras. The cheaper headline means an annual payment, and accepting online payments can add two separate percentage-based charges. Shopify’s India pricing page

For a new store, the useful question is: which plan supports your work at the lowest total cost? A solo owner and a team processing the same sales may need different plans. Your payment mix can matter as much as your turnover.

Shopify plans in India: compare the cost and the reason to buy
These are advertised standard subscription rates. Annual totals below are calculated as twelve times the displayed annual-billing monthly equivalent. Taxes, temporary offers and optional services are separate. Confirm the order total before subscribing. Official plan prices
Basic: start here if one person can operate the store
- Monthly billing: ₹1,994.
- Yearly billing: ₹1,499/month equivalent; ₹17,988 upfront for the subscription year.
- Shopify third-party transaction fee: 2% on applicable transactions.
Basic provides a full online store, but no additional staff accounts. That distinction matters if an employee needs their own regular admin access. Collaborator access for a service provider is a separate arrangement. Basic plan features
Choose it when: the owner can run day-to-day operations and the required integrations work on Basic. Test those requirements before paying annually.
Grow: consider staff access and transaction savings
- Monthly billing: ₹7,447.
- Yearly billing: ₹5,599/month equivalent; ₹67,188 upfront.
- Shopify third-party transaction fee: 1% on applicable transactions.
Grow supports up to five staff accounts. A small team needing separate access has a practical reason to compare it with Basic. Grow plan features
Choose it when: the staff requirement justifies the higher fixed bill, or transaction-fee savings cover the difference. The calculation below helps separate those two reasons.
Advanced: buy it for a defined requirement
- Monthly billing: ₹30,164.
- Yearly billing: ₹22,680/month equivalent; ₹2,72,160 upfront.
- Shopify third-party transaction fee: 0.6% on applicable transactions.
- Staff allowance: up to 15 accounts; live third-party shipping rates are listed among its features. Plan comparison
Choose it when: you can identify the operational requirement or measured saving that pays for it. Ask whether your specific carrier, app and India workflow are supported; a feature name alone does not establish compatibility.
Plus: request a complete contract quote
The India pricing page advertises Plus from ₹1,75,000/month. Treat this as a starting point for a quote. Confirm the contract length, platform and payment fees, implementation, integrations and renewal terms in writing. Shopify Plus pricing overview
For most first-store budgets, comparing Basic and Grow is the more useful starting exercise. If you are weighing Shopify against running your own WooCommerce store, our Shopify vs WooCommerce cost comparison for India puts both on the same three-year budget.
Every plan with GST, yearly and monthly
Shopify’s India page shows prices before GST. Shopify’s billing help says stores located in India are charged GST on Shopify fees unless they give Shopify their GSTIN, and the exemption only applies to bills after that. The table shows both billing options and what yearly billing saves.
| Plan | Per month, paid yearly | Year (before GST) | Year (with 18% GST) | Per month, paid monthly | 12 months monthly (before GST) | 12 months monthly (with GST) | Yearly billing saves | Fee on third-party payments | Staff accounts |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | ₹1,499 | ₹17,988 | ₹21,225.84 | ₹1,994 | ₹23,928 | ₹28,235.04 | ₹5,940 | 2% | — |

Worked example: a store selling ₹3 lakh a month
Shopify Payments is not available in India, so you use a gateway such as Razorpay and Shopify adds its own fee on each order. On ₹3,00,000 of monthly sales, Basic adds 2% (₹6,000) and Grow adds 1% (₹3,000). Your gateway also charges its own fee on top; see Razorpay charges for a typical rate.
| Plan | Plan (per month, paid yearly) | Shopify fee on sales | Total to Shopify (before GST) | Total with 18% GST |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | ₹1,499 | ₹6,000 | ₹7,499 | ₹8,848.82 |
| Grow | ₹5,599 | ₹3,000 | ₹8,599 | ₹10,146.82 |
One more India-specific point: Shopify does not create GST-compliant bills for your customers. You will need a GST invoicing app or a separate billing tool; our GST invoice format guide lists what each bill must show, and the GST calculator helps with the sums.
Annual billing: lower equivalent price, larger upfront payment
The Basic annual subscription above costs ₹17,988 before extras. Twelve charges at its monthly-billing rate total ₹23,928: a difference of ₹5,940 for this simple price comparison.
There is a timing detail: Shopify’s monthly subscription cycle is 30 days, so twelve bills cover 360 days. Calendar-year cash outflow depends on invoice dates. Annual billing charges the full subscription year upfront; it does not turn the discounted equivalent into monthly instalments. Subscription charges are generally non-refundable under Shopify’s billing guidance. Billing cycles and payment terms
Monthly billing can be sensible while you validate the store. For example, saving on an annual subscription offers little comfort if a required product option, shipping workflow or integration fails after launch.
The advertised introductory offer is three days free, then ₹20/month for three months, subject to eligibility and offer terms. Keep it in a separate introductory-cost line. Do not multiply ₹20 by twelve to estimate a normal operating year. Trial offer
Payment costs: Shopify’s fee and the gateway’s fee
India is absent from Shopify Payments’ supported-country list. An India-based business should therefore check compatible third-party providers for online card payments, rather than budgeting with Shopify Payments rates shown for another country. Supported countries
With an external provider, two charges can apply:
- Shopify’s third-party transaction fee: the plan-dependent platform charge.
- The payment provider’s processing charge: the amount set by your gateway agreement, plus applicable tax.
Shopify expressly states that its fee is additional to the provider’s processing charge. Its calculation includes product value after discounts, plus tax and shipping. Use the actual chargeable amount, rather than assuming a merchandise-only sales report is the fee base. Third-party transaction fee rules

For illustration, if both providers charge 2% on the same ₹1,000 payment, their combined charges are ₹40 before tax on those fees. The percentages add only because this example uses the same base and no fixed charges.
Razorpay’s public pricing includes a standard 2% plus GST example, alongside offers and different payment-method terms. That is a useful illustration of a separate gateway cost, not a guaranteed rate for every merchant or payment. Razorpay pricing
Before choosing a provider, check settlement timing, refund treatment, chargebacks, international payments and whether the required methods work with Shopify. Our guide to choosing a payment gateway covers that wider decision. Do not assume UPI makes every platform or gateway charge zero; ask for the applicable fee schedule.
What changes for cash on delivery and refunds?
Shopify does not levy its third-party transaction fee on manual methods such as COD or bank deposits. Manual payment rules
COD can still create courier collection charges, remittance delays and return-to-origin costs. Compare the delivered-order economics before encouraging customers to use it.
For refunded orders, Shopify’s third-party transaction fee is not returned. Check the gateway’s refund policy separately. Gift-card and store-credit transactions also have specific rules, so check them if they form part of your checkout. Transaction fee policy
Transaction fees at different sales levels
If you use a third-party payment gateway such as Razorpay, Shopify adds its own fee on top of the gateway’s. The table shows only Shopify’s part, so you can see when a higher plan starts to pay for itself.
| Plan | Fee | ₹50,000 | ₹1 lakh | ₹3 lakh | ₹5 lakh | ₹10 lakh |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | 2.00% | ₹1,000 | ₹2,000 | ₹6,000 | ₹10,000 | ₹20,000 |
| Grow | 1.00% | ₹500 | ₹1,000 | ₹3,000 | ₹5,000 | ₹10,000 |
| Advanced | 0.600% | ₹300 | ₹600 | ₹1,800 | ₹3,000 | ₹6,000 |
| Plus | 0.200% | ₹100 | ₹200 | ₹600 | ₹1,000 | ₹2,000 |
Break-even: when Grow becomes cheaper than Basic
| Monthly online sales | Basic | Grow | Cheaper |
|---|---|---|---|
| ₹50,000 | ₹2,499 | ₹6,099 | Basic |
| ₹1,00,000 | ₹3,499 | ₹6,599 | Basic |
| ₹3,00,000 | ₹7,499 | ₹8,599 | Basic |
| ₹5,00,000 | ₹11,499 | ₹10,599 | Grow |
| ₹10,00,000 | ₹21,499 | ₹15,599 | Grow |
With yearly billing, Basic costs ₹1,499 a month plus 2% of sales and Grow costs ₹5,599 plus 1%. The two are equal at ₹4,10,000 of online sales a month. Below that, Basic is cheaper; above it, Grow is — before counting the extra staff accounts and reports Grow adds.
Payment gateways and cash on delivery
Two fees apply to every online payment: the gateway’s fee and Shopify’s third-party fee. Razorpay lists a 2% platform fee plus 18% GST on that fee, with no setup fee. Cashfree lists a 1.95% platform fee on its pricing page. Always check current rates on the gateway’s own page.
| Item | Rate | Cost | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shopify third-party fee | 2% | ₹2,000 | Shopify India pricing page |
| GST on Shopify fee | 18% of fee | ₹360 | Assumes GST is charged on the fee |
| Razorpay platform fee | 2% | ₹2,000 | Razorpay pricing page |
| GST on Razorpay fee | 18% of fee | ₹360 | Razorpay pricing page |
| Total | 4.72% | ₹4,720 |
Cash on delivery works differently. Shopify’s help centre says manual payment methods such as cash on delivery do not attract third-party transaction fees. You add COD under Settings → Payments → Manual payment methods. Shopify’s Advanced Cash on Delivery app adds rules such as eligible PIN codes and order-value limits.
App costs to budget for
Most Indian stores add at least a GST invoice app. Several have a free plan for up to 50 orders a month, then charge in US dollars:
| Need | Example app | Free plan | First paid plan |
|---|---|---|---|
| GST invoices | GST Pro: GST Invoice India | Up to 50 orders a month | US$9.90/month (300 orders) |
| GST invoices | GST Invoices India | Up to 50 orders a month | US$4.99/month (51–500 orders) |
| Cash on delivery rules | Advanced Cash on Delivery (by Shopify) | check vendor site | check vendor site |
Shopify and WooCommerce can both connect to shipping aggregators: Shiprocket’s help pages explain how to add Shopify, WooCommerce and Wix stores as sales channels. Compare Shopify with a self-hosted store in our e-commerce platform guide. India-built options such as Dukaan did not show prices we could read, so check their site directly.
A realistic Shopify monthly budget: worked example
Suppose an owner uses Basic on monthly billing and processes ₹2,00,000 of fee-bearing online payments in the budget period. Assume both Shopify and the gateway charge on that same amount.
This is an editorial illustration, not a supplier quote or a claim about an average Indian store:
- Basic subscription: ₹1,994.
- Selected paid apps: assumed ₹1,000.
- Domain provision: ₹100, spreading an assumed ₹1,200 annual renewal across twelve months.
- Shopify fee: ₹2,00,000 × 2% = ₹4,000.
- Gateway processing: assumed ₹2,00,000 × 2% = ₹4,000.
Illustrative monthly cost: ₹11,094 before taxes.

The ₹100 domain line is a budget allocation, not a monthly domain invoice. Subscription and app billing dates can differ. Use actual invoice dates for a cash-flow forecast, and substitute your own app prices, gateway terms and payment mix.
This total excludes stock, packaging, courier charges, COD collection, returns, advertising, professional setup, business email and owner time. A paid theme or initial domain purchase would also add to the opening bill. Use the online store cost calculator to build the broader budget.
The lesson from this example is practical: reducing unused apps helps, but payment costs deserve equal attention once sales increase.
When does upgrading from Basic to Grow pay for itself?
Compare the extra subscription cost with the saving on transactions that actually attract Shopify’s fee. Keep the gateway arrangement and other costs unchanged for this calculation.
If both plans use annual billing
The annual subscription difference is ₹67,188 − ₹17,988 = ₹49,200. Moving from 2% to 1% saves one percentage point, or ₹1 per ₹100 of chargeable volume.
₹49,200 ÷ 0.01 = ₹49,20,000 of fee-bearing volume over the year.
Spread evenly across twelve months, that is ₹4,10,000 per month. At that level, the subscription difference and Shopify fee saving balance before taxes. Above it, Grow has the lower combined subscription-plus-Shopify-fee cost under these assumptions.

If both plans use monthly billing
The subscription difference per 30-day cycle is ₹7,447 − ₹1,994 = ₹5,453. Divide by the same 0.01 fee saving:
₹5,453 ÷ 0.01 = ₹5,45,300 of fee-bearing volume per cycle.
The annual and monthly thresholds differ because the subscription price difference differs. Compare matching billing options and time periods.
Use eligible payments, not the headline sales total
If your store records ₹5 lakh of customer payments but only ₹2 lakh attracts Shopify’s third-party transaction fee, use ₹2 lakh in this calculation. Manual COD payments do not become fee-bearing online payments just because they appear in the same sales dashboard.
For Grow to Advanced on annual billing, the equivalent calculation is ₹2,04,972 extra subscription cost ÷ 0.004 = ₹5,12,43,000 in annual fee-bearing volume, or ₹42,70,250 per average month. A smaller business needs a feature-based reason for that upgrade, rather than an assumption that the lower percentage automatically saves money.
These are fee-only break-even points, not profit forecasts. Staff access may justify an earlier upgrade. Changing app charges, gateway terms, taxes, seasonal sales and promotional prices can change the result. Use expected full-period volume instead of projecting one unusually strong sale week across a year.
Extra costs to check before you subscribe
Domain, hosting and business email
Store hosting and SSL are included in the core plans. A separate hosting package is therefore unnecessary for the Shopify storefront. Included plan services
Budget separately for a custom domain purchase or renewal unless your order explicitly includes it. Shopify lets you use a domain bought from Shopify or another registrar. Check ownership, renewal and DNS access with our domain registrar comparison. Shopify domain guidance
Shopify does not provide mailbox hosting. If you need a service such as Google Workspace, include its own subscription; our Google Workspace pricing guide explains how to count paid accounts. Email hosting guidance
Apps, themes and paid setup
Write down the problem each proposed app solves before installing it. Record its currency, recurring price, usage allowance, trial end and cancellation process. Free or included functionality may already cover a basic requirement.
Apps can carry recurring, usage-based or one-time charges. Some bill outside Shopify, and those subscriptions require separate cancellation. Uninstalling an app does not necessarily remove a charge already generated. App billing rules
Start with a theme that can handle your actual product pages and navigation. Pay for a theme or developer when you can specify what is missing. An agency quote should identify product upload limits, content responsibilities, mobile checks, revision rounds and handover access.
GST and the amount leaving your bank account
All calculations here exclude taxes. Shopify’s India billing guidance says GST is charged on Shopify fees and describes invoice-charge exemption after submission of a GSTIN, applying to subsequent invoices. That describes Shopify’s billing treatment; it does not establish that the business has no separate tax obligation. India billing tax guidance
Check your billing profile and each supplier’s invoice. Ask your accountant about the applicable treatment rather than applying one tax assumption to Shopify, the gateway, every app and all other services.

A short buying checklist
Before moving from a trial to a paid commitment:
- Test one representative product, including the variants and delivery conditions you need.
- Confirm gateway eligibility, charges, settlement and refund handling.
- Check who needs staff access and which plan supports that workflow.
- List required apps, their paid limits and their cancellation dates.
- Review the subscription billing cycle, upfront payment and renewal terms.
- Preview the product page, cart and checkout on a phone.
- Keep the store owner account, domain and billing access under the business’s control.
Start with Basic if it meets those checks. Choose Grow for a demonstrated staff or cost requirement. Consider Advanced when a specific capability or sustained transaction volume supports the additional spend.
If Shopify still seems expensive for the job, use the website platform selector to clarify your requirements, then compare ecommerce website builder options on the same scope and total-cost basis. If Wix is on your shortlist, our Wix vs Shopify comparison for Indian sellers shows when its dollar pricing beats Shopify’s 2% gateway fee.
Frequently asked questions
How much is Shopify Basic in India?
The advertised subscription is ₹1,994 on monthly billing or ₹1,499 per month equivalent when paid yearly. Add applicable taxes, payment charges and your selected extras. The annual equivalent is not a monthly instalment.
Does paying Shopify annually mean there are no monthly bills?
No. The annual payment covers the subscription year. Apps, transaction charges and other services can still produce bills during the year; their timing depends on the charge and billing cycle.
Is Shopify Payments available for an Indian business?
India is not listed among Shopify Payments’ supported countries. Check compatible third-party providers for online payments and include their processing charges alongside Shopify’s applicable transaction fee.
Does Shopify charge a transaction fee on cash on delivery?
Shopify does not charge its third-party transaction fee on manual COD payments. Courier collection, remittance and return costs can still apply, so COD is not automatically the cheaper delivered-order option.
Do I need to buy hosting and a domain separately?
Store hosting and SSL are included in the core plans. A custom domain purchase or renewal is a separate budget item unless your order includes it. Mailbox hosting also requires a separate service.
Are the Shopify cost examples inclusive of GST?
No. These examples exclude taxes. Check the billing profile and individual supplier invoices; Shopify’s treatment after GSTIN submission does not settle the business’s separate tax obligations.
Should I upgrade to Grow as soon as sales increase?
Use payments that attract Shopify’s fee, the subscription price difference and the correct billing period. Staff access can justify an upgrade independently. Check sustained volume and feature needs before increasing the fixed cost.
Is GST included in Shopify’s India prices?
No. Shopify’s India prices are before GST. Stores located in India are charged GST on Shopify fees unless they give Shopify a GSTIN. For example, Basic paid yearly is ₹17,988, or ₹21,225.84 with 18% GST.
How much do I save by paying Shopify yearly?
On Basic, yearly billing costs ₹17,988 against ₹23,928 for 12 monthly payments, a saving of ₹5,940 before GST. On Grow the saving is ₹22,176, and on Advanced ₹89,808.
Does Shopify give GST invoices to my customers?
No. Shopify says it does not create GST-compliant bills. Use a GST invoicing app or a separate billing tool for customer invoices.
Does Shopify charge a transaction fee on cash on delivery orders?
Shopify’s help centre says third-party transaction fees are not charged on manual payments, which include cash on delivery.
At what sales level is Shopify Grow cheaper than Basic?
With yearly billing, Grow becomes cheaper above ₹4,10,000 of online sales a month paid through a third-party gateway.
