Quick answer: For a .in domain, GoDaddy, BigRock and Hostinger all advertise ₹1 for the first year, with ₹899 for each later year (₹1,799 over three years). For .com, BigRock’s three-year offer is ₹2,811 and GoDaddy’s is ₹3,199. Add 18% GST.
Last updated: 25 October 2026 · . Prices checked on 25 October 2026 on each registrar’s official domain pages. Rupee prices are before 18% GST; Namecheap charges in US dollars.
Our shortlist for the best domain registration in India is Hostinger, GoDaddy, BigRock and Namecheap. Each is worth comparing for a different reason: managing an existing Hostinger setup, giving a designer controlled access, evaluating an India-facing domain package, or comparing clearly separated registration and renewal prices.
For a business domain, choose the account you can keep under your control and afford to renew. A first-year discount matters less if the next invoice is unclear or only your web designer can access the account.
This comparison uses official price pages, product documentation and registry guidance. We have not purchased a domain from every shortlisted service or measured support response times. Best domain registrars in India: where to start

All four appear in the .IN Registry’s accredited-registrar directory, under their respective legal names. Accreditation is a useful eligibility check; it is not a rating of price, support or suitability.
Before paying, confirm who controls the domain account, what renewal costs and how to transfer the domain. This page concentrates on which registrar to compare and what to ask before paying.
Hostinger: compare first if you already use its services
Why shortlist it: If your website is already with Hostinger, keeping the domain in the same account may simplify routine administration. You can also compare a standalone domain without selecting a new hosting plan.
Price signals: The India .in page advertises ₹1 for the first year alongside a three-year term message, and states a renewal price of ₹899/year. The .com page similarly advertises ₹1 for the first year with a three-year term message and states ₹1,499/year renewal. Prices exclude GST; the .com page also lists an ICANN fee. Hostinger .in pricing · Hostinger .com pricing.
The purchase condition: Treat the ₹1 headline as one part of an offer. Get the price for every year in the selected term and the total payable before deciding. Do not assume three years cost ₹3, or that the promotional price is available for a standalone one-year order.
Our call: Worth comparing for an existing Hostinger customer who values account convenience. For a new customer buying only a domain, compare the complete quote with a separate registrar. A hosting bundle should earn its place through the hosting you need; our hosting cost guide helps compare payment commitments and renewal costs.
GoDaddy: compare when a designer needs controlled access
Why shortlist it: GoDaddy documents delegate access, which lets another person work with your products without receiving your account password. You can change or remove access, and domain permissions can be organised through folders. This is useful when an agency maintains the website but the business should retain the account. GoDaddy delegate access.
Price signals: Its .in offer is ₹1 for the first year with a required three-year purchase, with the additional years shown at ₹899 each, a calculated ₹1,799 before GST. Its .com offer is different: ₹1 for the first year with a required three-year purchase, with the additional years shown at ₹1,599 each. That makes a calculated ₹3,199 base commitment before any taxes or other charges shown at checkout. GoDaddy India offers · GoDaddy .com purchase terms.
The purchase condition: Ask for renewal pricing for your exact extension and account. The additional-year price inside a promotional purchase does not establish the next renewal after that term. Review optional protection, email and other subscriptions separately.
Our call: A useful candidate when delegated administration is a priority. Check the permissions you will actually grant; a familiar brand or low introductory price does not settle the recurring-cost decision.
BigRock: compare for an India-facing domain package
Why shortlist it: BigRock offers domain registration with DNS management, domain forwarding and transfer-lock controls. Its main domain page describes two Titan mailboxes as a 30-day trial. Do not budget them as permanently free business email. Visit BigRock.
Price signals: Its .in page shows a three-year offer of ₹1 + ₹899 + ₹899 = ₹1,799. Its .com page shows ₹1 + ₹1,405 + ₹1,405 = ₹2,811 for the promotional three-year registration. These are displayed package subtotals; confirm the final tax treatment, eligibility and any extras in the cart. BigRock .in terms · BigRock .com terms.
The purchase condition: The extension pages and BigRock’s general domain price list show different renewal figures. Request a clear quote for the initial term and the renewal after it. Do not combine the lowest figures from separate pages into an offer that the cart does not provide.
Our call: Include BigRock when comparing an India-facing domain purchase, provided it confirms the ongoing cost. Treat the mailbox trial and any protection package as separate decisions. General privacy marketing does not override the .in restriction explained below.
Namecheap: compare separate registration and renewal prices
Why shortlist it: Its extension pages separate registration, renewal and transfer prices. That makes it easier to see which transaction a price belongs to before comparing an offer.
Price signals: The .com table lists US$11.28 for a one-year registration and US$18.48 for a one-year renewal. The separate new-customer promotion has additional conditions. Its .in table lists US$9.98 for a one-year registration and US$11.98 for renewal. Namecheap .com prices · Namecheap .in prices.
For .com, add the listed US$0.20 annual ICANN fee when applicable to the transaction. Do not add that charge indiscriminately to every extension. Namecheap states that final charges are in USD, even when another display currency is selected. Check taxes and card conversion charges before comparing the final amount with a rupee quote. ICANN-fee policy · Namecheap billing currency.
The purchase condition: The .com page lists BasicDNS and DNSSEC, with DNS features dependent on the applicable Namecheap DNS service and eligible domain. Check what you retain if you use another DNS provider. Do not treat a general privacy benefit as available for .in.
Our call: Worth comparing for a buyer comfortable checking a dollar-denominated quote and managing the domain separately from hosting. Confirm that your account, payment method and required support route work for your Indian purchase before committing.
Compare the same domain over the same period
Search the exact spelling and extension at each finalist. A different extension, a premium-priced name, a broker service and an ordinary available registration are different purchases. Ask specifically whether the quote is for a standard registration and whether any special renewal price applies.
Then compare two amounts:
- Payable now: every registration year you must buy, plus applicable taxes, fees and selected extras.
- Payable later: the stated renewal amount and period, plus services you will keep after their introductory benefit ends.
For a three-year view, record year one, year two and year three separately. Distinguish a three-year prepayment from a one-year purchase followed by two future renewals. The latter is only an estimate when renewal prices can change.

In the graphic’s invented example, ₹1 for the first year plus ₹999 for each of two additional required years produces a ₹1,999 base payment. Taxes and extras remain separate. This is a calculation example, not a quote from any registrar.
For a dollar quote, use the payment provider’s applicable conversion and fees. A search-engine exchange rate is not necessarily the amount that reaches your card statement. If you need an invoice in your business name, confirm the billing details and available tax information before paying.
The ScaleSaathi Website Cost Calculator helps put the domain into a broader launch budget. It is an estimate for the website project, not a live registrar-price comparison. Our small-business website cost guide explains the other costs to include.
Three-year cost table, with GST
Most ₹1 offers only work as part of a three-year purchase, so the fair comparison is the total for three years. The tables below use each registrar’s own figures. If you are GST-registered you can usually claim the 18% back; if not, use the with-GST column.
| Registrar | Year 1 | Later years | Three years (before GST) | Three years (with 18% GST) | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| GoDaddy | ₹1 (3-year purchase required) | ₹1,599 | ₹3,199 | ₹3,774.82 | New customers only |
| Hostinger | ₹1 (best value on 3-year term) | ₹1,499 | About ₹2,999 if years 2–3 are charged at the renewal price | ₹3,538.82 | Plus ICANN fee ₹17.44 a year |
| BigRock | ₹1 (3-year sale) | ₹1,405 in the sale; ₹1,479 renewal | ₹2,811 | ₹3,316.98 | One-year price ₹749 |
| Namecheap | US$11.28 | US$18.48 | US$48.24 (plus US$0.20 ICANN fee a year) | Billed in USD | Free privacy; new-customer offer has conditions |
| Registrar | Year 1 | Later years | Three years (before GST) | Three years (with 18% GST) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| GoDaddy | ₹1 (3-year purchase required) | ₹899 | ₹1,799 | ₹2,122.82 |
| Hostinger | ₹1 | ₹899 | About ₹1,799 if years 2–3 are charged at the renewal price | ₹2,122.82 |
| BigRock | ₹1 (3-year registration required) | ₹899 | ₹1,799 | ₹2,122.82 |
| Namecheap | US$9.98 | US$11.98 | US$33.94 | Billed in USD |
BigRock’s .in page showed two different one-year prices on 25 October 2026 (₹549 in its price table and ₹579 in its FAQ), so check the cart if you only want one year. Namecheap does not offer privacy on .in domains.
Worked example: a .com plus a .in for your brand
You want yourbrand.com and yourbrand.in for three years. At GoDaddy that is ₹3,199 + ₹1,799 = ₹4,998 before GST, or ₹5,897.64 with 18% GST. At BigRock it is ₹2,811 + ₹1,799 = ₹4,610 before GST, or ₹5,439.80 with GST. From year four, budget for the full renewal price on both names every year.

More registrars, extension by extension
Our first comparison covered four registrars. Below we add Porkbun, Name.com and Squarespace Domains, and split prices by extension, because the cheapest registrar for .com is often not the cheapest for .in or .online. Rupee prices exclude 18% GST; dollar prices exclude tax unless stated. “Check vendor site” means the page we read did not show that figure.

The .online row is the clearest renewal trap in this guide: a ₹90–₹99 first year turns into more than ₹3,000 a year at GoDaddy’s struck price, Hostinger and BigRock. Only buy it if you are happy to pay that every year.

| Porkbun | US$17.40 (3 × US$5.80) | US$31.66 (US$7.98 + 2 × US$11.84) |
Porkbun and Namecheap bill in US dollars, so the rupee amount on your card depends on the exchange rate and your bank’s fees. Indian registrars bill in rupees and add GST, which a GST-registered business may be able to claim back.
WHOIS privacy and DNS: what you actually get
- Privacy is not available for every extension. Namecheap’s own tables say domain privacy is not supported for .in and .co.in. Check this before choosing an Indian extension if privacy matters to you.
- Free privacy where allowed: Namecheap, Porkbun and Hostinger (on its .org page) list free privacy; Squarespace says privacy is included.
- DNS: Namecheap includes free BasicDNS and DNSSEC, with DNS servers in Europe and the US; Porkbun lists free WHOIS privacy, email forwarding and SSL certificates with every domain.
- Extra fees: Hostinger shows an ICANN fee of ₹17.44 on applicable domains; Namecheap adds US$0.20 for applicable domains and shows US$0 for .co.in.
How to transfer a domain to a new registrar
- Check the domain is more than 60 days old and has not changed owner recently; new registrations usually cannot move in the first 60 days.
- Make sure the owner email on the domain is one you can open.
- Unlock the domain at the current registrar and switch off privacy if the new registrar asks.
- Copy the authorisation (EPP) code.
- Start the transfer at the new registrar, paste the code and pay.
- Approve the confirmation email and wait — most transfers finish within about a week.
- Re-check DNS records and switch auto-renewal on at the new registrar.
Check .in verification and privacy separately
The .IN Registry publishes a mandatory KYC notice. Ask your selected registrar which verification process and documents apply to your applicant type, and complete the request through its verified account or official route. Do not assume the same document checklist applies to every individual and organisation. .IN Registry KYC notice.
Its registrant terms prohibit proxy/privacy masking services and require accurate, maintained registration information. A registrar’s general “free privacy” or protection banner is not evidence that proxy masking is permitted for .in. .IN Registry registrant terms.
For other extensions, check the specific privacy service, eligibility and disclosure terms for your purchase. Privacy is not a promise of anonymity: registrars can have procedures for disclosing non-public registration data in qualifying circumstances. GoDaddy registration-data disclosure policy.
The account must remain usable when people change
A domain can support your website, business email and account-verification records. Choose the registrar around the people who will manage those responsibilities.
Before paying, confirm these four practical controls:
- Registrant details: The correct person or organisation is recorded, with an authorised contact where appropriate.
- Recovery: The business can access the account email, second-factor method and recovery information. Avoid making a mailbox on the new domain your only recovery route.
- Administration: A designer receives the access needed for the job. Record who can alter DNS, renew the domain or authorise a transfer.
- Renewal ownership: One named person checks renewal notices and successful payment, with a backup person for absences.
Enable two-factor authentication where available. Keep recovery codes securely, and check the account’s own expiry and renewal status instead of assuming that an invoice email proves a renewal is due. If auto-renew is enabled, confirm the payment method remains usable.
If an agency buys the domain for you, request a handover covering the registrar account, registration details, expiry date and access arrangements. Domain registration, website files and a business mailbox are separate items to document. Our Google Workspace pricing guide is useful when budgeting a separate Google Workspace mailbox.
Ask about leaving before you need to leave
Changing your web host does not automatically require changing the domain registrar. The domain’s connection settings can often be updated while the registration remains where it is. A registrar transfer moves the registration’s management; it does not, by itself, move your website files or mailboxes.
For a transfer, ask the current and receiving registrar about eligibility, the authorisation code, the charge, any registration time added and the DNS service you will use afterwards. ICANN’s guidance for covered generic domains describes restrictions such as the first 60 days after registration, certain recent transfers and a change-of-registrant lock. Do not plan around an immediate transfer being available. ICANN transfer guidance.
For .in, follow the registry’s own process: obtain the authorisation code from the sponsoring registrar and provide it to the receiving registrar. Check the applicable conditions rather than automatically copying a .com checklist. .IN registrar-transfer procedure.
Before changing nameservers or a DNS service, record the entries used by the website, email and connected tools, and confirm who will recreate them. An automatic scan may miss records, so compare the new setup with the original. Keep the old service available until the replacement works. Cloudflare’s guidance on checking imported DNS records. For the website files themselves, our web-hosting migration guide addresses that separate move.

Five questions to send your shortlisted registrar
Use the same brief for both finalists. You do not need to buy additional hosting to get a domain quote.
- What is the complete amount payable for this exact domain and selected term? Please separate each registration year, taxes, fees and optional products.
- What is the next renewal amount and billing period? Please identify any offer conditions and explain how renewal-price changes are communicated.
- What verification and privacy conditions apply to this extension and my applicant type? Please direct me to the official process.
- Can I manage DNS, account recovery and another person’s access as required? Please show the relevant controls or help instructions.
- How would I transfer away later? Please explain eligibility, authorisation-code access, applicable charges and what happens to included DNS or email services.

Choose once the answers are clear: Hostinger for useful account convenience; GoDaddy when its delegated access fits the way you work; BigRock when the confirmed package and renewal quote are competitive; Namecheap when its separated pricing and dollar-based purchase suit you. If a provider cannot clarify a must-have condition, keep comparing before registering the business’s main address.
Frequently asked questions
Which registrar is cheapest for a .in domain?
Compare the same domain and period using the final cart total and the next renewal quote. Introductory eligibility, required multi-year purchases, taxes and extras can change the result. This shortlist does not establish one universally cheapest registrar.
Does a ₹1 domain offer mean I pay only ₹1?
Only if the actual order and offer terms say so. Some first-year offers require a multi-year purchase with separately priced additional years. Add every required year and applicable fees before paying.
Can I use proxy privacy protection for a .in domain?
The .IN Registry’s registrant terms prohibit proxy/privacy masking services. A general privacy banner on a registrar website does not establish eligibility for .in. Follow the extension-specific terms and supply accurate registration information.
Do I need to buy hosting from the domain registrar?
No. A domain can be registered separately and connected to another hosting or website service, subject to the relevant setup requirements. Compare a bundle only when its included products suit the website you intend to operate.
Must I transfer the domain when I change web hosts?
Usually not. You can often change its website connection settings while retaining the registrar. A registrar transfer, website-file migration and mailbox migration are separate tasks; check DNS and email dependencies before making changes.
Does a free email benefit include a permanent business mailbox?
Do not assume it does. Check whether the benefit is forwarding, a trial or a paid mailbox after an introductory period. BigRock’s main domain page describes the two Titan mailboxes as a 30-day trial. Confirm the continuing service and renewal cost.
What is the cheapest way to register a .in domain in India?
When we checked on 25 October 2026, GoDaddy, BigRock and Hostinger each advertised ₹1 for the first year, then ₹899 a year. Over three years that is about ₹1,799 before GST, or ₹2,122.82 with 18% GST.
Is GST charged on domain registration in India?
Yes. Indian registrars add 18% GST. For example, GoDaddy’s ₹3,199 three-year .com offer becomes ₹3,774.82 with GST. Namecheap charges in US dollars, so check the final amount at checkout.
Which registrar has the cheapest .com over three years?
Among the four we compared, BigRock’s three-year sale was lowest at ₹2,811 before GST. Hostinger comes to about ₹2,999 if years two and three are charged at its ₹1,499 renewal, and GoDaddy’s offer is ₹3,199.
Is Porkbun cheaper than Indian registrars for .in?
On 25 October 2026 Porkbun listed .in at US$7.83 for registration, renewal and transfer. Compare it with ₹899 renewals at Indian registrars after converting at your card’s exchange rate and fees.
Why is .online so cheap in the first year?
The first year is a promotion. Renewals were ₹3,149–₹3,489 at BigRock and Hostinger and US$28.84 or more at Porkbun and Namecheap.
